Day 17

Thank you to David Weinberger for sponsoring this day.

I Love You 300

The 1980‘s were groundbreaking for the RSQ, paving the way for this ensemble to ultimately bear the dedications of more than 300 works by incredible composers from all over the world.

By the way, remember exactly two weeks ago when we mentioned for you to please remember the number 300 when our yellow brick road leads us to this date?

Exactly!

300 is equally a celebration of the 300 kilometers that Adolphe Sax traversed on foot to take his dream from Brussels to Paris:

his own invention, his sound, the saxophone!

Tristan Keuris’s “Concerto“ is an absolute watershed work, written by an incredibly inspired master beyond all measure, who for over one year of his life poured every bit of his artistic genius exclusively and unwaveringly into what would become a legendary milestone for saxophone quartet and symphony orchestra.

With the premiere of this work also came the dawn of a new era, where the RSQ began to forge friendships with so many of the world‘s finest orchestras and conductors.

It stands out as one of the first works of its kind, and remains now absolutely as fresh and exhilarating as it ever was, and for all to hear and to enjoy.

The instrument

Kessels Soprano (1905, Netherlands)

This soprano saxophone from the Kessels Factory was called, “Sirena”. It was intended to be the more sophisticated model meant for soloists.
