Day 13

Thank you to Mathijs v.d. Put for sponsoring this day.

1=1+1+1+1 Why do you play in the RSQ?
Elliot Riley, alto saxophone

“When I was younger I was often picked on and teased.  Let‘s just say I wasn‘t chosen first for the baseball team at school.

With that said, the music spoke to me, and I have always listened and followed, heart first.

Being ultimately asked  by my childhood heroes on the fourth of December, 1999, to join their ranks remains to me an honor beyond all reckoning.

I am a part of something that is bigger than I could ever be.

I proudly live each day  in the RSQ with the enthusiam of my first season, providing where I can with the experience made accessible to me with my 23rd season, marveling silently at the abilities of my colleagues, and learning from everyone I come in contact with:

Tine the melody,
Andreas the inner voice,
Iria the heartbeat and foundation,
the composers of today in front of me,
the masters of yesterday on one shoulder,
and the ghost of Adolphe Sax on the other shoulder,
all whispering to me and helping me to boldly take my next step.“

The instrument

Adolphe Sax Alto (1866, France)

his remarkable instrument is a second-generation Adolphe Sax alto, a testament to the enduring legacy of its creator.
